I am excited to announce that we will be taking a field trip to the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge on Friday, May 22, 2010.
The center is a wilderness comprised of forests, prairies, and wetlands reminiscent of what the Fort Worth/Dallas Metroplex once looked like. We will experience native landscape and varied plant and animal communities that are present in this preserved and undisturbed wildlife habitat. While we are there, we might even see buffalo!
- We plan to leave promptly at 9:00 am and will return by 2:00 pm.
- Please pack a sack lunch for your child, as we will be discarding any left over food and drink items.
- We will be doing a lot of walking, so make sure your child is wearing comfortable tennis-style shoes.
We are still in need of parent volunteers. Please keep in mind that all volunteers are required to register on the district website. Please sign up early enough to allow time for a thorough background check. If you are interested in attending, please let me know as soon as possible. I will need to know how many tickets to purchase.
I look forward to this opportunity for our class to experience first-hand the native landscape and natural habitation that we have been studying in science over the last month.
Please be watching for the permission slip and information flyer that will be sent home soon.

Mrs. Pence,
ReplyDeleteJimmy Jr. wants me to go on the field trip. I want to go on the field trip. However, due to a wild spell in college (2 disorderly conducts and a DUI or two), I don't think I could pass the background check.
I swear I have changed. So I am just going to show up and get on the bus and we will keep this between you and me. Okay?

Mrs. Jim Beam,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, let me commend you on your parenting abilities. I can see that you truly care for your son in the way that he conducts himself at school both in academics and in his citizenship. I always value your input, and I appreciate your willingness to help in our field trip on May 22; however I am not at liberty to make decisions on behalf of the school district.
I would be more than happy to arrange a meeting with our school's principal, in which we can discuss your background check. There is still plenty of time in which the decision can be made by the proper authorities regarding your volunteering status. Thank you so much for your interest in our class and activities.
I look forward to hearing from you soon,
Mrs. Jennie Pence

(Note to Mrs. Downey- Normally, I would have deleted Mrs. Beam's comment and then directed her to email me privately or call me to discuss such a personal manner, so that her request would not be read by others in such a public forum. I answered here so that you could read my response. I would not have wanted the other students and parents that might read the classroom blog to know such intimate information about another student's parent. All kinds of trouble could come of that.)
